Pre-Fitting Checklist

Pre-Fitting Checklist

Important Information Ahead of Your Fitting Day

Your floor fitting day is almost here, and we can’t wait to help you transform your space. To ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible, we’ve outlined some key details for you to review before your fitting appointment. Rest assured, you’re in expert hands with our trusted fitting partners. Please take a moment to read through this pre-fitting checklist to prepare for their arrival.

Preparing Your Space

·       Skirting Boards and Painting
If you’re redecorating, we recommend painting your skirting boards after your new flooring is installed. If this isn’t feasible, please ensure all painted areas are fully dry before the fitting date. For gloss paint, a minimum drying time of 72 hours is essential. While our fitters take every precaution to avoid scuffing, minor touch-ups may occasionally be required post-installation.

·       Furniture and Valuables
If you need assistance moving furniture, our fitting partners are happy to help. To avoid mishaps, please ensure all furniture is emptied beforehand. For fragile or valuable items, we recommend moving these to a safe location. If there are any loose floorboards, exposed cables, or pipes, please inform the fitters in advance.

·       White Goods
Any white goods located in the area being fitted must be moved prior to the fitting, as our partners are not insured to handle these items.

During and After Your Fitting

·       Offcuts and Carpet Whipping
We’re committed to going the extra mile, which includes taking care of your offcuts. However, if you’d like to keep them, just let the fitter know. Ask your local store about our carpet whipping service to transform offcuts into a matching rug or door mat.

·       Floor Preparation
A flawless new floor starts with a stable foundation. Occasionally, hidden issues under your existing floor may require additional preparation. In most cases, our fitting partners can address these on-site. However, there may be rare situations where specialist contractors are needed. Uneven floorboards, for example, can impact the final look and durability of your flooring.

·       Flooring Quantities and Leftovers
Flooring is purchased by the box, not by the square metre. To account for colour matching and fitting adjustments, an additional 5% (rounded to the nearest box) is factored into your order. We recommend keeping any leftover boxes for future repairs or replacements if needed.

·       Door Adjustments
Depending on your flooring choice, your doors may need modification—for instance, transitioning from a smooth floor to a thick, luxury carpet. If you’ve arranged for door adjustments in advance, our team will do their best to accommodate this. In some cases, specialist carpenters may handle door easing on a different day. Please note that certain doors, such as fire doors, cannot be modified. If you have concerns, don’t hesitate to contact your local Carpetright store.
